About Us

Producing Champions Since 2000

OUR HISTORY

Five Star Tae Kwon Do was founded in 2000 by Grandmaster John Cloyd. His vision was to keep youth off the streets, fight bullying and low-self esteem through confidence-building, and provide a constructive activity for youth in the community.

Since then, Five Star Tae Kwon Do has grown by leaps and bounds. The Maryland location continues to grow, and a new Dover, Delaware location opened in October 2018.

Over the years, the program has produced a host of regional, national, and world champion competitors.

Five Star Tae Kwon Do is an affiliate of Simba DoJang family of schools. Simba DoJang, founded in 1963, has schools worldwide.

Simba DoJang at New Hope Academy was established in 2010 by the late Grandmaster Reginald Jackson, Sr. Grandmaster Jackson’s motto was “Love, love love,” and he worked relentlessly to perpetuate the organization’s commitment to the community.
